Many people can never get excited about where they are going because they are too fixated on where they’ve been. The problem with that is God’s word tells us the opposite…
• “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” – John 10:10
• “I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you future” – Jeremiah 29:11
• “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” – Isaiah 43:18
If God’s word says its not about where you’ve been then no matter what its not about…
• what you’ve done
• what you’ve accomplished
• what you have failed at
• who has hurt you
• who you have hurt
God’s word says He loves us, forgives us, restores us, and is preparing a future for us!
Here are 3 STEPS to get past your past and start focusing on where you’re going!
1.Forgive Yourself & Others!
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32 NIV)
• Many are tied to their past because of how you’ve been hurt by others or how you’ve hurt others
• Forgiveness is the real “F” word because its easier to curse someone than forgive someone
• Forgiveness is the key that frees you from your past and opens the door to your future
• Jesus has done the hard work of forgiveness so STEP UP & FORGIVE!
2. Forget the Past!
“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead” (Philippians 3:13 NIV)
• Life isn’t meant to live walking backwards…it could lead to a painful future!
• Good, Bad, or Ugly let the past be the past… you can’t fix it, change it, or relive it!
• Some people spend their whole life sharing old stories instead of making new ones!
• Jesus isn’t thinking about your past so you shouldn’t either, so STEP UP & FORGET!
3. Focus on your Future!
“Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV)
• There is a reason why your windshield is bigger than your rearview mirror – focus on where you’re going more than where you’ve been!
• Focusing on your future brings discipline and motivation into your life to accomplish all the dreams God has for you!
• Jesus is working hard to prepare your future so keep your eyes focused on Him and STEP UP and FOCUS!
